Dermal Fillers

The Garden Medical Spa offers a full menu of dermal fillers.

Am I a candidate for dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers add volume to the face to improve facial contours and soften wrinkles. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish. Shadows develop in areas associated with volume loss such as the eyes, cheeks, chin and temples. Prominence of wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines begin to appear around the nose and mouth. Loss of lip volume is associated with flattening of the cupids bow area, vertical wrinkles and decreased volume and wrinkling of the red portion of the lip.

The Dermal Filler Consultation

At your consultation we will evaluate your areas of concern and develop a comprehensive treatment plan addressing those concerns. The customized treatment plan will incorporate the best combination of fillers to achieve a natural looking result.

Ask the office staff when you schedule your appointment if the medications or supplement you take should be temporarily stopped prior to dermal filler injections. We also have a herbal medication available to decrease swelling and bruising that many patients find helpful.

At this consultation, we will also emphasize which oral medications or supplements to avoid prior to your procedure. It is advised to avoid aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.), St John's Wort, or high-dose Vitamin E as these agents can cause an increase in bleeding and bruising at injection sites.

The Dermal Fillers Procedure

The procedure is quick and convenient, and the results are practically instantaneous. All the fillers that we use contain the local anesthetic agent call lidocaine which makes the treatment more comfortable. For added comfort during lip augmentation, we use a topical numbing cream on the lips to help make the procedure as painless as possible.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

Patients often return to work or their daily activities immediately after their dermal filler injections. Strenuous activity can resume the next day. Bruising is unusual after dermal filler injection if you have stopped, well in advance, medications and supplements that increase the risk of bruising such as ibuprofen, garlic, aspirin, etc.

Dermal filler side effects are unusual but can include temporary redness, bruising and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days

Why Do You Have So Many Types Of Fillers?

There are differences in the way each filler behaves, how they fill and their longevity. These differences are based on what the filler is composed of. There are hyaluronic acid based fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero), Ca Hydroxyapatite based fillers (Radiesse) and fillers which stimulate your own collagen (Sculptra).

All kinds of filler materials can help improve the youthful appearance and fullness of facial skin, but there is no one filler that is ideal for everyone or for every part of the face. Different regions of your face, such as the lips, tolerate fillers differently so not all fillers can be injected into the lips. Sometimes, multiple fillers can be used in various places in the face to improve the entire facial aesthetic.
