Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Advanced laser skin treatment technology allows patients to improve a range of complexion issues without the downtime of more aggressive skin resurfacing procedures. Under the direction of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Mirmanesh, who studied laser science at Beckman Laser Institute at the University of California Irvine, our laser skin treatment providers in Tampa Bay and North Palm Beach, Florida, use a fractional, non-ablative laser to treat uneven skin texture, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and other concerns.

Ablative vs. Non-Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing

If you’re considering laser skin resurfacing treatments, it helps to understand each option and its benefits. That includes knowing the difference between ablative and non-ablative lasers.

Ablative Lasers

An ablative laser, such as our Lumenis CO2 laser, delivers an intense beam of light energy that vaporizes the skin’s damaged outer layer (the epidermis). At the same time, the heat from the laser penetrates the underlying layer of skin (the dermis) and stimulates the production of collagen, gradually improving the skin’s tone and texture. An ablative laser produces dramatic results after a single treatment but requires substantial downtime for your skin to heal.

Non-Ablative Lasers

A non-ablative laser is a gentler treatment that creates controlled injuries to the tissue without damaging the skin’s top layer. By heating the tissue, it triggers the production of new collagen. Non-ablative laser skin resurfacing requires a series of treatments, but little to no downtime is needed.

Both ablative and non-ablative lasers may be fractional, which means they deliver pinpoint beams of light energy.

What Is the Lumenis ResurFX® Laser?

The Garden Medical Spa uses the ResurFX laser. Unlike other fractional technologies, the ResurFX only needs one pass across the treatment area to be effective, saving time and protecting your skin. We can customize the treatment based on your needs, and the ResurFX includes technology that protects against overheating the skin, which increases comfort during the treatment. A treatment can take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

What Does the ResurFX Laser Treat?

We recommend the ResurFX for treating:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scarring
  • Sunspots
  • Stretch marks
  • Loose skin

It can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, shoulders, upper back, legs, and hands. We recommend multiple treatment sessions scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks. You may see results after 2 to 3 treatments and will continue to see your skin become firmer, smoother, and more evenly toned as your body continues producing new collagen.

What Is Recovery Like After a ResurFX Treatment?

Even though you won’t need downtime after the procedure, you may experience redness and swelling afterwards. We apply sunscreen immediately after the treatment, and you’ll need to protect your skin from sun exposure while it heals. You shouldn’t use products that can irritate the skin (retinol creams and salicylic acid, for example) for 5 days after the treatment. Use gentle cleansers to wash the skin and apply moisturizers and sunscreen liberally. We recommend waiting a couple of days before applying makeup to treated areas.

Combining ResurFX With Other Procedures

Some of our clients choose to combine non-ablative skin resurfacing with other skin rejuvenation treatments. These may include intense pulsed light (IPL) to more effectively target dark spots and discoloration or dermaplaning to amplify the treatment.
